Telling My Story: Race, Class, and Gender Performance

Telling My Story: Race, Class, and Gender, is a community-building program for those living and/or working in the Upper Valley. The program included two evening sessions and one full-day session. By practicing listening, speaking, and withholding judgment in a group, we built relations based on trust, communication, and dialogue. In order to do this, we attempted to identify and dismantle the visible and invisible walls of preconception, power, and bias that surround us, which many times we actively and/or passively help to create and maintain. This workshop was tailored to support participants in reclaiming their voices and finding their ears so that we can build stronger, more trusting, and just communities.

Telling My Story has the following aims:

  1. Build a stronger community amongst those who live and/or work in the Upper Valley,

  2. Break down stereotypes about invisible populations,

  3. Challenge our own understanding of ourselves as participants in the social hierarchy,

  4. Have participants experience the power of listening to other's stories and sharing their own stories, and

  5. Emphasize the importance of our own critical presence in society.
