The public libraries of Norwich, Quechee/Wilder, Hartford, and West Hartford, Vermont, and Lebanon and Lyme, New Hampshire, are sponsoring a free singalong to the first act of Hamilton: An American Musical on January 11, 2019, Alexander Hamilton’s birthday.
Hamilton is a sung and rapped musical about the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton, with music, lyrics, and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda and inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by historian Ron Chernow. The show debuted on Broadway in 2015 and in 2016 was nominated for a record-setting 16 Tony awards, winning 11, including Best Musical.
“Hamiltunes: an American Singalong” is an official offshoot of Hamilton. The show was so popular that fans in Los Angeles started putting on singalong shows to the original cast soundtrack. Rather than shut down this copyright-violating enthusiasm, the Hamilton team released an instrumental album for the show and set up a process for groups to legally and officially host non-profit singalong events.
The local singalong, an official Hamiltunes event, will take place at 7 pm at the Norwich Congregational Church and is generously underwritten by Mascoma Bank.
*Tickets are available at all sponsoring libraries (but not required to attend)
*Costumes are encouraged
* Refreshments will be provided
* Want to lead a song from the stage? Just say so when you get your tickets
