Who: Learners: Upper Valley residents who want to practice and improve their spoken English. Tutors: English speakers who volunteer as conversation partners and language modelers.

What: Free of charge to all participants. The Talking Bridge can supplement formal ESOL/ELL classes, but you don't need to be enrolled in a class to attend. 

Where: Kilton Library, 80 Main Street, West Lebanon, NH 

When: Mondays from 5:00-6:15 p.m. (except for Federal holidays when the library is closed)

Prizewinners: Books of the past decade. 

What makes a novel or nonfiction book worthy of  an award? What makes an author's work eligible for the Nobel? Do you agree? Are politics ever involved?

A selection is on display at the Kilton Library, or bring your own favorite to discuss. Brown bag lunches are welcome.

Strange: Where and How People Live Nothing to Envy by Barbara Demick

North Korean children are taught to sing that "We have nothing to envy in the world" according to Demick. In this book 6 defectors from the closed city of Chongjin (out of more than 100 from all of N. Korea whom she interviewed) describe the lives they left, and provide a rare portrait of life in the DPRK. Copies to check out are available at the Lebanon Reference desk.
